Most "AI for SEO" advice is either too abstract ("use AI to write meta titles!") or too pie-in-the-sky ("AI will replace your SEO team"). Neither is useful when you have to ship a launch tomorrow. This list is the opposite — ten specific SEO tasks you can automate with AI today, the tool you need to plug in for each, and the prompt that produces a usable answer in one shot.

If you're using Claude or a similar assistant connected to your Google Search Console via an MCP server, the AI can pull your real numbers and act on them — not just give generic best-practice advice.

1. Find queries where you're losing ranking week-over-week

The bread-and-butter Search Console question. Old way: export two CSVs, build a pivot table, sort by delta. New way:

"Compare my Search Console performance for the last 7 days vs the prior 7 days. Show me the 20 queries with the biggest position drops, weighted by impressions. Filter to my main domain."

2. Spot keyword cannibalisation

Two pages competing for the same query is one of the highest-ROI fixes in SEO. To surface it:

5. Audit internal linking with the page-by-query report

A page that ranks 11–20 for a high-intent query is leaking traffic. Internal links to it from your top-ranking pages can push it onto page 1. To find candidates:

"List my pages currently ranking 11–20 with at least 1,000 impressions over the last 28 days. For each, list the page on my site that ranks #1 for the closest related query — that's the page I should add an internal link from."

6. Generate FAQ schema from your highest-CTR queries

Google rewards content that answers People Also Ask questions. AI can lift these directly from Search Console:

"Pull my top 100 queries that are phrased as questions (start with how / what / why / can / is). For each query, draft a 40-word answer based on the corresponding ranking page's content. Output as FAQ schema JSON-LD."

7. Build a content brief from a single query

The traditional brief takes an hour: pull SERP, list outlines, count words, list entities. AI can do the SERP-reading part:

"For the query 'connect Google Search Console to Claude', summarise the top 5 results currently ranking. List the H2/H3 structure of each. Then propose an outline that covers the union of unique subheadings, in a logical order."

You still write it. But you skip the busywork.

8. Detect sudden spikes (good or bad) without a dashboard

Set up a recurring AI prompt — a Linear / Slack / cron task — that runs:

"Compare yesterday vs the trailing 14-day average for clicks, impressions, and average position on my main domain. Flag any metric with a delta of more than 30%. Give me 1 line per anomaly with the most likely cause."

This catches deindexings, algorithm hits, and viral traffic in 24 hours instead of a week.

9. Generate sitemap-status reports for stakeholders

Sitemap status is exactly the kind of report that nobody wants to make manually:

"List every sitemap submitted to my Search Console property, with submission date, last fetched, status, and total URLs. For any sitemap with errors, summarise the error type."
